The Viperfish is a fear-invoking resident of a deep-sea zone called the mesopelagic. Ranging from 660 - 3300 feet, this fish lives in complete blackness. The viperfish lures prey toward its gaping mouth using a small light at the top of its dorsal fin. It uses its massive jaws full of needle sharp teeth to trap prey and swallow them whole. Do you need any other reason to be afraid of the dark?
